The Livradois-Forez is located in the east of Auvergne, roughly between Clermont-Ferrand, Montbrison and Le Puy. In the west of the region lies the Livradois, which contains most of the Parc naturel regional Livradois-Forez. At over 320,000 hectares, it is among the largest regional natural parks in France.
Day 1 (Monday)

Day 2 (Tuesday) Peyre Mayou / Saint-Pierre-La-Bourlhonne
Duration: 5 hours Distance: 15km Altitude: 958/1533m Elevation: 649m
This route takes the practised hiker from forest to plateau.
The trail starts wooded and gradually extends to the Hautes-Chaumes, the Col du Béal and the Peyre-Mayou, a small rocky plateau at 1,538m.
From here you can enjoy the sense of space and the views of the various mountain ranges of the Puy-de-Dôme and the Loire.
Day 3 (Wednesday) Le Puy-Gros / Le Brugeron
Duration: 4.5 hours Distance: 16km Altitude: 834/1424m Elevation: 649m
The municipality of Le Brugeron was founded in 1789. It lies on the border of the departments of Puy-de-Dôme and Loire. The village clings to the slopes of the Forez near the Col du Béal. The commune covers 2,740 hectares and its 250 inhabitants, the ‘brugeronnais(es)’, enjoy nature, fresh air, trout streams, fauna, flora, forest walks and mushroom picking every day. On the Hauts de Chaumes (deforested part), classified Natura 2000,
are peat bogs, medicinal plants, blueberries and, above all, the heather from which the name Brugeron derives. Most of the inhabitants were sawyers, clog makers in winter and farmers in summer.
Today, activities are closer to the village, with a plastics factory, numerous craftsmen including a wood sawmill, a bakery and a grocery shop.
Day 4 (Thursday) in the morning a visit to the market in Ambert with a short walk in the afternoon and possibly a visit to paper museum Richard de Bas (guided tour at 15:00)
The Thursday morning market in Ambert is a unique experience steeped in local charm. On Thursday mornings, farmers and artisans from the region gather to offer their fresh produce and handmade goods. The smells of regional cheese, freshly baked bread and local delicacies fill the air. Visitors can enjoy the lively atmosphere, with stalls selling typical regional products such as the famous Fourme d'Ambert cheese. It is the perfect opportunity to experience French culture and hospitality in a picturesque mountain village.
Ambert / Le Chemin des Papetiers
Duration: 2.5 hours Distance: 7km Altitude: 768m Elevation: 227m
This trail takes you in the footsteps of papermakers, with the various mills along the route bearing witness to the manufacture of rags to paper that made this valley one of the baking mats of the French paper industry from the late 15th century onwards.
A visit to the Richard de Bas Paper Museum in Ambert is a great way to discover the traditional process of making paper. The museum offers interesting insights into the history of the region's paper industry. Guests can participate in workshops and make their own paper themselves, making the visit interactive and educational. Moreover, the museum is located in a beautiful nature reserve, making the experience even more special.
Day 5 (Friday) Olliergues / L'eglise de la Chabasse
Duration: 4.15 hours Distance: 14km Heights: 425/625m Elevation: 473m
The heights of Olliergues, including the Chabasse area, is a gem to explore.
The church of Chabasse, a beautiful Romanesque building that was the parish church
until 1842. After that, the parish church was called ‘Notre Dame’- located in the centre of the village. This area also offers a sublime panorama of the Hautes-Chaumes foréziennes. It is an ideal spot for a quiet picnic. Continuing the route, the Chaîne des Puys comes into view. With the majestic Puy de Dôme, but also the Puy Mary or Puy de la Vache.... During the hike, you will move from open areas, where you can observe and discover extraordinary landscapes, to more wooded areas where you can enjoy the softness and coolness of the undergrowth.
Day 6 (Saturday) Job / Montée à Pierre-sur-Haute (1634m) level 3/4
Duration: 5.50 hours Distance: 15.6km Altitude: 1634m Elevation: 588m
This beautiful long walk takes you to the peaks of the Monts du Forez, aiming to reach Pierre-sur-Haute, the highest point of the massif (1634m).
Day 7 (Sunday)
After a delicious breakfast, it is unfortunately time to say goodbye
